FOUR Peterborough women will be baring their bras in public today to raise cash for charity. The women, who all work at First Steps Children’s Centre, in Welland, are to take part in the Playtex MoonWalk 2008 in London’s Hyde Park.
The huge fund-raising event, in its 11th year, will see 15,000 thousand bra-clad power walkers striding through the park at midnight to raise funds for breast cancer charity Walk The Walk.
Family case worker Sue Holmes, health team manager Angela Jones and two members of her team – Terrie Maddison and Karen Smith – will join thousands more at midnight to power walk a half-marathon in decorated bras.
Karen Smith told The ET that the group had got involved to raise awareness of the benefits of breast feeding.
She said: “Breast feeding has many benefits, but the main one is a reduction in the risk of breast cancer. We wanted to do some kind of fund-raising and we decided to do this.”
Entrants will be decked out in all manner of costumes, wigs, boas and bras and the Peterborough women, who are based at The Acorn Centre, in Scalford Drive, have their own special design courtesy of team member Sue Holmes.
They have already raised 700 – partly by collecting cash in a papier mach bra from Peterborough Primary Care Trust staff based at the town hall.
The women have been training hard in recent weeks in preparation for the walk.
