"You have done us proud again". That was the message today from Werrington Carnival organisers after thousands of villagers joined in the annual day of fun.The carnival route through the village was packed with well-wishers on a hot and sticky Saturday afternoon, as floats made their way to Werrington Primary School grounds for the fun, games and entertainment.

And today, Tim Pond, chair- man of the Werrington Scouts and Guides Council, which organises the event, said: "It was an exceptional day for our 40th carnival, and for the whole of the community.

"They did us proud once again. It was phenomenal – the best ever."

And with the total raised for the upkeep of the Scout HQ in the village expected to top 7,000, as well as thousands more for the charity stalls which took part in the event, Mr Pond added: "I would, on behalf of everyone involved, like to say a big thanks to all those who came. It has been a real bumper year."
