HUNDREDS of Deepings residents braved the unseasonable weather at one of the biggest country shows this weekend. The Deepings Show was held over on Saturday and Sunday at the showground, Millfield Road, Market Deeping, and despite rain pouring over the wide variety of cattle, sheep and farming machinery, there was still a large attendance.

This year was the 64th anniversary of the show, which attracts exhibitors and visitors from across the East of England and beyond.

This year there were a number of demonstrations and competitions, including sheep shearing, a horse gymkhana.

Pauline Redshaw, from the show's organising committee, said visitors looked for any available shelter to enjoy the show.

She said: "On Sunday, the rain came, but the Derbyshire Corps of drums marching band, the Kangaroo young Gymnasts and the Cheshire dog display all went ahead, and visitors watched from their cars parked along the ringside and from the marquee doorways.

"The entertainment continued in the marquee with various dance groups taking part."

The show also raises money for charity with a raffle every year, and this year raised 800 for Sue Ryder Care and The Deepings Men's Group – a charity which loans medical equipment to residents.

The committee is now beginning to work on plans for next year's 65th anniversary show, which will take place on the weekend of June 5 and June 6.
