At a General Teaching Council hearing in Birmingham today, a disciplinary panel found five of the seven allegations to be proven, four of which amounted to unacceptable professional conduct, it ruled.
More on the hearing's finings in Thursday's Evening Telegraph.
Wednesday, 12 noon: A TEACHER became so fed up with a pupil shouting out during a lesson that she taped his mouth shut, a disciplinary hearing was told.
The mother-of-one admitted this, but denied other allegations, including sticking a piece of cardboard over the mouth of a pupil who was persistently humming.
The former assistant headteacher also described as "ludicrous" a claim that she had chased another pupil round the science lab.
Carolyn Greig was appointed to the senior post at Bourne Grammar School in September 2005, but resigned last year after a series of allegations were made against her.
At a General Teaching Council hearing in Birmingham yesterday, Mrs Greig faced allegations of professional misconduct, relating to seven separate incidents between September 2005 and December 2006.
The panel watched a series of video statements by pupils about the alleged incidents.
Mrs Greig admitted the taping incident took place on a date between September 1, 2005, and December 4, 2006.
The disciplinary panel heard that the youngster, referred to as Pupil C, had been shouting out in class and Mrs Greig had warned him she would tape his mouth if he was not quiet. When he continued, she stuck a piece of tape over his lips, leaving him visibly upset.
Mrs Greig denies that she stuck a piece of cardboard across the mouth of a sixth former in September 2006.
She said of the sixth-former: "He was humming persistently. I told him: 'This is not the music department, go away if you want to sing. When you want to learn, come back to my lesson'.
"I would not try to deal with a sixth former like that."
The teacher cried as she admitted throwing a whiteboard pen across the classroom, causing it to hit a female pupil in the face.
Referring to the incident, in September 2006, she told the panel she was throwing the marker to another pupil for him to write on the board, but missed and later apologised.
She said was simply trying to "speed up" the lesson and was not throwing the pen aggressively.
Mrs Greig admitted that on an occasion between September 2005 and December 2005 she handled two boys by their shirt collars after finding them "scuffling" near a fire exit. She said her main concern had been to remove the pupils from danger as they were near a concrete stairwell.
It was also alleged that Mrs Greig tucked in a male pupil's shirt at the front of a class.
Mrs Greig, who denied the allegation, said she did summon the boy to the front of the class to show him which parts of his shirt needed to be tucked into his trousers, but denied touching him.
On another occasion it was alleged that she chased a pupil around a science laboratory before taping up the door after he left the room.
Mrs Greig branded the allegation "ludicrous" and said the suggestion that she would run in a laboratory was "silly". Mrs Greig admitted making unsubstantiated allegations against the headteacher of the school in an e-mail to colleagues last year.
The hearing was adjourned and was expected to resume today..
