The Health Protection Agency, with NHS Cambridgeshire, have investigated all three of the cases and found that in two, there are no links to existing cases.

Neither of the victims have travelled to the many countries affected by swine flu, which means they are likely to be "sporadic" cases transmitted within the community.

Director of Public Health at NHS Cambridgeshire Dr Liz Robin said: I can confirm that two further unrelated cases in Cambridgeshire have tested positive for swine flu.

"Both patients showed mild symptoms and received anti-viral drugs, where appropriate. They are both recovering at their homes.

"This comes as no surprise, and some transmission in the community has been expected.

"This does not represent widespread incidence in the community."

Since the first outbreak of the virus last month, confirmed cases in the UK have steadily risen to 107, while the global map now confirms 9,836 confirmed cases and 79 confirmed deaths.

Dr Robin added: "In most cases the swine flu infection has been mild and the advice to the public and health care staff remains unchanged.

"There are simple steps that everyone can take to protect themselves based on good respiratory and hand hygiene."

The exact location in the county of the two new cases is not known
