A MOTHER of four young children wept in court as she was jailed for intimidating a witness.
A MOTHER of four young children wept in court as she was jailed for intimidating a witness.Kellie Clifton (28) sobbed as Judge Nicholas Coleman told her on Thursday he had no choice but to send her to prison for her violent behaviour.
Clifton was facing a charge of criminal damage for allegedly smashing a window at Leslie White’s home, when she walked into the Eldern pub, Orton Malborne, Peterborough, at lunchtime on May 12, last year, Peterborough Crown Court heard.
She spotted Mrs White’s son Robert having a drink.
Prosecutor Nicola Devas said she sat down at his table before suddenly going “mad”.
She said: “She said to Robert White to drop the charges and don’t go to court.”
Clifton’s friend threatened to get “lots of travellers on to him”, before Clifton “walked around the pub shouting ‘you’re a grass, your mum’s taking us to court’.”
Later that day Clifton went round to Mrs White’s home where an argument broke out and Clifton slapped her.
Clifton pleaded guilty to witness intimidation and common assault. No evidence was offered on the criminal damage charge.
Mitigating, Maryam Syed said: “The defendant has insight and genuine remorse for her actions.”
Judge Coleman jailed her for three months for witness intimidation and a month concurrently for common assault.
