THE CREAM of the real ale crop have been celebrated at an awards night in a popular city pub.The Brewery Tap, in Westgate, held the Real Ale Awards night to celebrate the great and the good of the beer business in Peterborough.

And while a number of micro-breweries picked up awards, the pub itself was surprised with a special presentation to mark a decade serving the perfect pint.

Duty manager at the pub Hugh Sherwood picked up an award marking the Brewery Tap's 10th successive year in Camra's Good Pub Guide.

Today, Mr Sherwood said: "We had no idea we were receiving the prize, and it was a nice surprise.

"To stay in the guide for a decade has been a lot of hard work, and we are pleased we have been able to keep up the high standard needed."

Along with the Brewery Tap, four other breweries won awards.

Hopshackle, Tydd Steam, Ufford and Digfield all picked up prizes for the quality of their pints.

Mr Sherwood added: "The evening was a real success, and was very well attended.

"We always have guest ales on, so it was nice to see some of them rewarded. "
