NEWS that Peterborough's Thomas Deacon Academy scored a favourable inaugural Ofsted report has been met with delight by the city council's cabinet member for education. The 51 million academy, in Queen's Gardens, has been praised for making "good" progress towards raising standards.
The team of four inspectors also judged the overall progress pupils made was outstanding, and spoke favourably of the high aspirations that Thomas Deacon Academy set itself.
Today, Peterborough City Council's cabinet member for education, skills and university councillor John Holdich said he was delighted at the academy's "speedy" progress.
Thomas Deacon Academy only opened its doors to its 2,100 pupils in September 2007, following the merger of the Deacon's School, John Mansfield School and Hereward Community College.
"It's great news for Peterborough as a whole, not only for our young people, but for the industries of the city, as they will soon be in the workforce.
"I think the strong leadership of the school shows they can only go from strength to strength," said Cllr Holdich, a former governor of Hereward Community College.
