The Big Knit to help elderly at winter

NATTY knitters are being urged to dust off their needles and help elderly people in Peterborough fight the freeze this winter.

NATTY knitters are being urged to dust off their needles and help elderly people in Peterborough fight the freeze this winter. Now in its fourth year, the Big Knit sees kind-hearted knitters across Peterborough knit 4,000 little woollen warmers for veg pots and hats for smoothie drinks.

Each year, the makers of innocent smoothies invite people to knit the little outfits, which will be attached to the drinks and veg pots and sold in Sainsbury's stores in November.

And for every knitted item, 35 pence will be donated towards Age Concern Peterborough's services.

The branch is holding a knit and natter session to kick off the task on Wednesday, from 10.30am to noon at the Centre for Well Being in Lincoln Road, Peterborough.

Interested knitters should call 01733 564185.

To donate some double knitting wool size 10 and some 3.25mm knitting needles, visit the charity's officers in Lincoln Road, or their shops in Bretton, Werrington and Millfield.
