A TEENAGE boy has been arrested following an armed robbery at a city bookmakers last night. The robbery happened at about 7pm at the Tote Bookmakers, in The Parade, Lawson Avenue, Stanground.

Police were called after reports of a man entering the bookies and threatening two of the staff with a knife, and demanding money.

The terrified staff eventually handed him a sum of cash, and the knife-man made his escape.

No one in the shop was injured in the incident.

The robbery is the latest in a number of armed raids at betting shops in the city this year.

Earlier this year Sebastian Waller (24), of Moorland Court, Skaters Way, Werrington, Peterborough, admitted conspiracy to rob and burglary following raids at Betfred Bookmakers, in Bretton Centre, S & D Bookmakers, in Market Deeping, and S & D Bookmakers, in Bourges Boulevard, Peterborough.

His co-defendant Philip Kelly (24), of Flag Fen Road, Eastfield, Peterborough, denies burglary and conspiracy to rob, and will go on trial later this year.

Following last night's raid, a 16-year-old boy was arrested near the scene, and taken for questioning at Thorpe Wood police station.
