STEP back in time and learn about life in the Fens 100 years ago at a history event promising fun for all the family this weekend.Great Fen Project partners Natural England and the Wildlife Trust are joining forces with other organisations to celebrate the history of Ramsey and the Fens with a variety of events on Sunday.

The Wildlife Trust is holding a Heritage Day, from 11am to 4pm, at Ramsey Heights Countryside Classroom, in Ramsey, where visitors can play Victorian games and meet characters from the heyday of the brickworks.

People can also share their memories of life in the Fens and discover more about the Great Fen Project's plans for the future.

At Woodwalton Fen nature reserve, you can join Natural England representatives in searching for invertebrates and other wildlife, and visit the famous bungalow on stilts, built for Charles Rothschild almost 100 years ago. Younger visitors can also get involved with a variety of crafts and other activities.

Ramsey Rural Museum will also be open during the event, between 2pm and 5pm.

The museum holds a selection of traditional Fenland tools, machinery and replica stores, including a cobbler and chemist from 100 years ago.

Visitors can also search community archives, meet representatives of local history societies, authors and SecondWorld War re-enactors and tour the adjacent abbey walled garden.
