A GROUP of keen snooker players stayed at the table for 24 hours to help raise more than 1,300 for a children's charity. The Peterborough Q Club ‘C’ team sported special shirts to promote their fund-raiser for Great Ormond Street Hospital, in London.
The snooker marathon started at midday on Saturday, and the players paired off to play doubles matches through the night, at the Q Club, in Cowgate, city centre.
Player Geoff Ward Jnr said: “We managed to keep playing through the night, and the club kindly let us play for free and gave us a few meals and drinks to keep us going.”
Other players included Geoff’s dad Geoff and his brothers Chris and David.
Ciro Tomeo, who also took part, also promises to get all of his sponsorship matched pound-for-pound by his employer, Barclays Bank.
Great Ormond Street Hospital has more than 150,000 patient admissions or visits each year from children who are suffering from rarest, complex and often life-threatening conditions.
The hospital has relied on the generosity of the public to keep it going for more than 150 years.
