Shopping centre worker has swine flu

A WORKER at a Peterborough shopping centre is the latest to fall victim to swine flu, it has been confirmed. The worker, who is unnamed, works in one of the stores at Serpentine Green shopping centre, in Hampton, in what is the first case of the disease to be confirmed at the centre.

Confirmation of the situation was made by centre manager Dennis Baldry, after a worried member of the public said there were eight people at the centre believed to have been stricken with the disease.

However, Mr Baldry said: "I understand it is just one person from one of the stores.

"It is business as usual at the centre, but we are keeping our eyes open."

The news follows reports last week that a number of schools in the area had teachers and pupils who had contracted the disease in recent weeks.

Leapfrog Nursery, in Hargate Way, Hampton Hargate, Peterborough, has also sent letters to parents advising them of a swine flu outbreak, but is remaining open, in line with current guide lines.

As revealed by The Evening Telegraph on Friday, Peterborough Primary Care Trust is no longer keeping records for the number of people suffering from swine flu in the city.

Fifteen people have now died in the UK after contracting swine flu, including the first death of a patient who was otherwise healthy, who died in Essex on Friday.

However, England's chief medical officer, Sir Liam Donaldson, said it was a tragic case, but people should not panic.

Swine flu symptoms are very similar to normal season flu, and normally last just a few days. The advice for anyone worried they have the disease is to contact their GP.
