A SHOPLIFTER was caught trying to steal more than 70 of tools because of the bulky shapes his loot made in his jacket.Mark Letts, of Glenton Street, Eastgate, Peterborough, pleaded guilty at Peterborough Magistrates’ Court yesterday to stealing the tools from Homebase, in Padholme Road, on April 21 this year.
Letts, a recovering heroin addict, said he had been short of money, and was planning on selling the tools on to other people.
But when he left the shop a police officer spotted the boxes hidden under his coat.
Letts (38) had been convicted of stealing a 90 power drill from the same store earlier in the year, and also appeared at court to admit breaching the community sentence he had been handed.
District Judge Ken Sheraton sentenced Letts to four weeks in jail for the April offence, and two weeks in jail for the previous offence, to be served consecutively.
