Sam performs an act of shear generosity

WHEN 16-year-old Sam Amos wanted to cut off his luscious long locks, he decided that he shouldn't be the only one to benefit from a change of image. The Stanground teenager asked his friends and family to sponsor him to have his 13-inch-long hair shaved, and they obliged – giving just over 500 to Help for Heroes.

But the giving did not stop there, as Sam even donated his shorn hair to a children's cancer charity.

Sam, who will go into his second year of A Levels at Stanground College in September, said: "I thought 'if I'm going to shave it off, why not do it for charity'?

"I'm very keen on joining the armed forces, I've got family members in the services. You see in the news about all the soldiers being injured and killed and it seemed the right thing to do.

"I gave the hair to Locks for Love, which makes wigs for children with cancer, after my mum found out about them on the internet."

Having spent years growing his flowing tresses, Sam admitted to being anxious before the big shave.

"I was slightly nervous because I didn't know what I was going to look like. But I felt ready for it," he said.

The deed itself was done by Sam's aunt, Annaleaze D'Agnano, at her salon, D'Agnano's, in Parnwell.
