A SALON co-owner and her staff will be joining thousands of women across the city for Race for Life.

A SALON co-owner and her staff will be joining thousands of women across the city for Race for Life.House of Hair and Beauty staff, in South Street, Stanground, Peterborough, and the co-owners are limbering up for the charity race in aid of Cancer Research UK for the first time.

Co-owner Lesley Hirniak was spurred on to take part after several members of her family were diagnosed with the disease.

She said: “Eight of us are taking part on Wednesday, the whole salon except one, who is on holiday.

“We had sponsor forms on the desk and were hoping clients would also take part.

“I have had cancer in my family for years, and now my brother has it.

“I’ve done lots for other charities, such as the RSPCA, but never for cancer.

“We also have clients going through chemotherapy. It seems to be all around me.”

One of the group, Suzy Smale, will be celebrating her 25th birthday on the day, and her colleagues plan to take her on a girlie night out after the race.

The Peterborough events will take place on June 24 and 25 at 7.30pm at Ferry Meadows, and it is hoped those taking part will raise 300,000.
