A BRAND new educational centre has been set up on a royal estate.

Prince William School, in Herne Road, Barnwell near Oundle, found that it did not have enough space on its site for some of its vocational courses. It managed to get permission to put a 1,200 sq ft mobile unit on the Duke of Gloucester's nearby estate.

Students who study automotive engineering and healthy and beauty for their GCSEs now go to this site for all their lessons.

Assistant headteacher Graham Snelling, who has a special responsibility for vocational training, said this allowed the school to keep moving with its vocational activities.

He said: "This is a really superb benefit for the students. We didn't have enough space for it on site but it's good for them to do lessons somewhere else other than in school. We're very lucky to have it."

The new unit was funded by the Learning and Skills Council (LSC), and the Duke of Gloucester himself opened it yesterday (Monday, November 13).

Mr Snelling added: "The Duke of Gloucester spent an hour talking to the students and staff and looking around. He seemed very interested."
