members of the Rotary Club of Peterborough applauded as the group's first woman president was appointed.During a ceremony at the Watersports Centre, at Ferry Meadows, in Peterborough, outgoing president Marcus Horrell handed over the chain of office to Maureen McKenna, who became the 79th president of the Peterborough club.

Members also took advantage of the venue to try out a little sailing before the changeover dinner.

Over the last four years, Rotary has also developed the Sailability scheme at Ferry Meadows to give the disabled a taste of the freedom that sailing brings.

Mr Horrell said: “We were particularly pleased to recognise 42 years of service of Rotarian Tony Newall by making him an honorary member.”

There was an extra warm welcome, too, for former president and his wife Keith and Elizabeth Nicholls who came up from Kent, where they now live.
