CITY Rotary clubs supporting a school building project overseas have successfully managed to double the funds to be donated to the project.Rotarians from Peterborough and Ramsey recently visited David’s School, in the Koya rural district, of Sierra Leone, and decided that, although growing well with the help of Rotarians donating holiday time and ad hoc funding, it was time to offer the school a more substantial cash injection.
And the sum raised has just been doubled by a grant from Rotary International to a total of 8,470.
President of the Rotary Club of Peterborough Marcus Horrell, who visited Sierra Leone in 2008, is delighted.
He said: “Several UK clubs have members supporting this school and with the building now up and running we were keen to get more desks, books, toilets and all the basics in place to give the children a properly functioning school.”
