UPDATE 5PM: After examining the device, RAF officers discovered that it was just the plastic casing of an old bomb and not the missing one.

Police spokesman Elaine James said: "Someone rang in with this information and it shows that people are being vigilant." UPDATE 4PM: It is believed the bomb found is not the practice device lost from an RAF Harrier jet earlier this week.

BREAKING NEWS 3PM: RESIDENTS have been evacuated in Long Sutton, near Spalding, today after it was suspected a bomb lost from an RAF jet could have landed at the skateboard park.

Following a report from a member of the public at 1.25pm, police cordoned off part of Woad Lane plus the roads near Cinder Ash Park and evacuated people from their homes.

A Lincolnshire police spokesman confirmed bomb disposal experts were on their way to the scene.

"At the moment we have cordoned off the area and evacuated nearby residents. We have called EOD and will hand over to them when they arrive," the spokesman said.

A 6lb bomb was discovered missing on Tuesday from an RAF Harrier jet based at Wittering.

It was thought the bomb had been lost when the jet was on a training flight to RAF Holbeach.

Searches were made and people were warned to stay away from the practice bomb if it was found.

The device has been described as like a firework and is designed to explode on the ground and give off a flash and smoke, but not to cause damage.
