Residents jumped out of windows and clambered down scaffolding following a fire.

The blaze started at the entrance of a block of flats in Kesteven Walk, in central Peterborough at about 12.30 today (6 July). See the location on Google Maps.

It took hold quickly.

Within minutes neighbours rushed to help with ladders and blankets while waiting for the fire service to arrive.

Four fire engines and a turntable ladder which arrived at the scene were faced with billowing smoke and three people hanging out of the windows crying for help.

Three people were treated at the scene.
