Pressure group launches campaign

A CAMPAIGN has been launched for a new train station near Market Deeping.

A CAMPAIGN has been launched for a new train station near Market Deeping. The Spalding and Peterborough Transport Forum will be focusing its attentions on the campaign to open a new railway station at Deeping St Nicholas in the year ahead.

The group recently held its annual meeting at the South Holland District Council offices in Priory Road, Spalding, where chairman George Scott was re-elected for another year at the helm.

Vice-chairman Louise McGuinness and treasurer Lyn Capes were also re-elected.

The group is upset to have been overlooked by East Midlands Trains when it awarded the Spalding station adoption to South Holland Helping Hands, a voluntary spin-off group of South Holland Radio.

It is turning its main focus to the campaign to open Littleworth Halt station.

The group campaigns for better conditions of service and represents commuters in the Spalding and Peterborough areas in having a voice on the provision of rail, road and bus, and to keep close links with National Express, East Midlands and the local MP.

The group is looking for a secretary to replace the departing Andrew Elsden.
