Police challenge to put wind in charity's sails
A CHARITY sailing challenge will mark the 20th anniversary of the crimebusting charity Crimestoppers.
A CHARITY sailing challenge will mark the 20th anniversary of the crimebusting charity Crimestoppers.Six officers and staff from Cambridgeshire Constabulary will be leaving the safety of dry land to take part in the 50-mile race around the Isle of Wight where they will battle the various tidal and weather conditions.
The Capgemini Sailing Challenge takes place on Sunday, September 28, and will see a force crew of varying experience taking part.
Detective Inspector Mick Birchall, project manager Nick Sampson, community safety team leader, Peterborough, Debbie Sampson, Detective Sergeant Mark Stratton, Pc John Hazel and Pc Andrew Shepherd make up the crew.
DI Birchall said: “Crimestoppers provides a valuable service to the police, and this is our opportunity to pay them back for all of their help over the past 20 years.
“We want to raise as much money as possible for the charity to ensure that local Crimestoppers initiatives benefit from the event.”
