BLUE skies and warm sunshine saw more than 30 people get their hands dirty to develop three acres of land in Peterborough.

BLUE skies and warm sunshine saw more than 30 people get their hands dirty to develop three acres of land in Peterborough. From fitting fences and painting, to building paths and repairing paving, the volunteers from the Industrial Power Systems Division at Perkins Engines were kept busy throughout the day.

The work was carried out as part of the Peterborough Environment City Trust project to transform three acres of land at Railworld, in Oundle Road, Peterborough.

The project now includes a wildlife habitat and an 8,000-sq ft environment centre with classrooms, a large rotating globe and a state-of-the-art energy management system.

Volunteer Brian Pearce, who has been working on the project for the past 12 years, said: "What was achieved that day was nothing short of phenomenal. It is amazing what can be achieved when like-minded highly-motivated individuals take on challenging tasks and work together as a team.

"The children are enjoying the place as much as we have all enjoyed creating it for them."
