Shops in Peterborough are being urged to follow the lead of Hawkin's Bazaar, a city centre store by improving disabled access. This week Hawkin's Bazaar, in Bridge Street, was commended for making improvements to the disabled access to the shop.
In recognition of the work, Erik Vittens, chairman of Disability Voices – a group looking to boost disabled issues across the city – presented shop manager Hannah Niedzwiecka with a certificate.
Mr Vittens said: "I was particularly pleased to present a good practice certificate to Hawkin's Bazaar.
"This was in respect of its efforts to improve access for people with disabilities to tits premises, by the provision of a portable ramp.
"Its staff also received a commendation for assistance to members of our disability community who use the store.
"It is further hoped that other businesses, most particularly with a single step, will see the opportunity this brings with just the addition of these portable ramps."
Disability Voices meets at Peterborough Town Hall on the first Thursday of every month at 11am, and the group is always looking for more members.
