Peterborough Festival: Square gets a taste of Caribbean - video

CATHEDRAL Square became "Calypso Square" as the sounds of the Caribbean got yesterday's Peterborough Festival programme of city centre concerts off to a laid-back start.

CATHEDRAL Square became "Calypso Square" as the sounds of the Caribbean got yesterday's Peterborough Festival programme of city centre concerts off to a laid-back start.Hundreds of shoppers and visitors were treated to the sounds of Solid Steel, a world renowned steel band, who brought their distinctive steel-pan music to the city centre.

Mayor of Peterborough Cllr Pat Nash was on hand to introduce the band, who were performing as part of the free lunchtime music programme of events.

The band even brought the weather with them with listeners enjoying soca, reggae, samba, bossa nova and pop music in the sun.

Lunchtime Tuesday and Thursday recitals take place in nearby St John's Church, while musical treats featuring bhangra and opera will take place al fresco in Cathedral Square.
