EIGHT schools and one early years centre have been awarded Peterborough's Inclusion Charter Mark.Peterborough City Council launched the Inclusion Charter Mark award in 2006 to recognise and celebrate schools that provide high-quality flexible, specialist educational opportunities to meet the needs of all their pupils.
At a ceremony at KingsGate Community Centre, in Staplee Way, Parnwell, Heltwate Special School, Bushfield Community College, Longthorpe Primary School, Newborough Primary School, St Thomas More Primary School, Braybrook Primary School, Caverstede Early Years Centre, Southfields Junior School and Southfields Infants' School were awarded the charter mark.
Presenting the awards, the council's director of children's services, John Richards said: "These schools are working very hard to ensure they provide educational opportunities that meet the needs of all their pupils.
"It is important that every child in Peterborough is given the best start in life and the highest quality education to meet individual specific needs."
Schools seeking to achieve the inclusion charter mark need to demonstrate how they meet the needs of all their pupils and how good relationships with staff, parents, governors and the community are developed.
In the first instance, the school needs to assess its own inclusive practice.
Moderators visit the school to evaluate the evidence and to ensure that a common standard is applied to all schools seeking the award.
