Peterborough's beer festival is back with a bang

FANS of real ale quenched their thirst – and even had their passion tattooed on their back – as the 31st Peterborough CAMRA beer festival rolled into the city.

FANS of real ale quenched their thirst – and even had their passion tattooed on their back – as the 31st Peterborough CAMRA beer festival rolled into the city. The first day of the festival on the Embankment kicked off with a trade only session, and then it was the public's turn to soak up the carnival atmosphere.

As well as sampling an array of tasty tipples and listening to bands, one plucky beer aficionado even got an Oakham Ales Beermonster logo inked on to his back.

Thousands of people are set to flock to the five-day event, which runs until Saturday and offers more than 500 real ales, European-bottled beers, traditional ciders, wines as well as a packed line-up of musical entertainment.

Headlining on the last night, August 23, is Pink Floyd tribute act Think Floyd.

Other bands playing throughout the event include The Nuggets, Acer and The Mighty Quinn.

There will also be a funfair, a CAMRA (Campaign for Real Ale) shop, a pub quiz, traditional pub games and a selection of food. The festival is organised and staffed by volunteers, with any profits going to CAMRA to help with campaigning for drinkers' rights, good pubs and good beer.

There is also a collection for the Royal National Lifeboat Institute.
