Peterborough health staff get swine flu jab

A VACCINATION against swine flu was given to representatives from clinics across Cambridgeshire on Tuesday.

A VACCINATION against swine flu was given to representatives from clinics across Cambridgeshire on Tuesday. It was made available to front line clinical and social care staff, who are believed to be at an increased risk of catching swine flu and of spreading the virus to at risk patients.

The vaccine has already been given in Peterborough. It is only available to clinical staff or those who fall into one of the priority groups - people over 65, pregnant women and people who live in the same house as someone with a diseased immune system.

Public Health Consultant at NHS Cambridgeshire Dr Lincoln Sargeant, said: "We would encourage anyone who falls into one of the priority groups to ensure that they have the swine flu vaccine.

"For most people so far, swine flu has been a mild illness. However, some people are more likely to be seriously ill with swine flu."

The vaccine has been developed to protect against the virus that causes the disease.

For further information on the vaccination visit www.direct.gov.uk/swineflu or call the National Pandemic Flu Service on 0800 1513 100.
