The quality of restaurants in this city is appalling. I've tried about 30 in the last year and felt only one was good – Bombay Brasserie. A decent top class one would clean up.

The city centre is awful now, the pubs are crap and the people just seem to want to fight each other. Peterborough has turned into the "angry city". The only saving grace for Peterborough is the Brewery Tap, and that won't be around much longer. Best restaurant for me is Royal Spice.

While the city nightlife isn't great I don't understand where this idea that it isn't safe has come from. I've been going out in Peterborough regularly for the last five years and have never had any trouble. Dull yes, dangerous, I don't think so!

While Peterborough's nightlife isn't great, it's not bad neither. There does seem to be a lot of aggressive people out there but you can't really compare Sunday to Thursday, with Friday and Saturday nights.

GETTING REAL

Town is relatively safe if you stay away from the trouble. When I go out I prefer to stay in the Westgate/city centre side of town, but there is so little on offer now.

The problem is the chain pubs on Broadway offered cheaper drinks than elsewhere, the older crowd took them up on the offer and establishments such as the 6 Bells and The Alderman closed. The older crowd decided they had enough of the meat markets and stopped going to town.

While there are a variety of restaurants around, they do very little to encourage the casual night time visitor.

The only decent club in Peterborough is The Met Lounge. Unique, entertaining, full of friendly people and you are guaranteed to get a drink within a couple of mins. It may need a lick of paint but who cares?

We do have a good selection of restaurants though

IT'S FRIDAY

Peterborough city centre is a dump. I was out last weekend for the first time in a very long while and the "strip" (Broadway) reminded me of Benidorm or Albufeira. Masses of chavs and chavettes off their faces urinating, abusing and pretty much every other disgusting thing you can think of.

The Royal Spice is a great place to eat I use it a lot. If you go out to for a night in Peterborough for a meal it's ok but there our only about seven pubs left in the city centre, so to find one which does not have the loud mouth yobs in is hard. I do think the councillors should go out at night and find out what the real world is about.

God, where do the people think they live – in Las Vegas? Yes the nightlife in the city reflects the size of the city and the the people that support it or don't. Outside of the big metropolitan centres such as London, Manchester, Birmingham the nightlife in most UK cities is comprised of pubs, clubs and restaurants

The city centre is as safe as you make it so less of the sweeping statements that it is downtown Beirut. Nottingham has a more vibrant night scene, but it also has a serious gun crime problem – be careful what you wish for!

I don’t go out every week as I can’t afford it, but I have seen some good gigs at The Park, Charters and the Cherry Tree in the last year or so.
