A NEW nightspot with a cosmopolitan atmosphere is aiming to attract the growing number of young eastern European migrants in the city.
A NEW nightspot with a cosmopolitan atmosphere is aiming to attract the growing number of young eastern European migrants in the city.Tapping in to a new audience, The Pulse 8 bar – which is located in the former Faith nightclub premises in Geneva Street – is hoping to rejuvenate the city's night scene.
The club is the first owned by Aigars Balsevics, and after 200 revellers packed into the venue on the successful opening night last weekend, he said: "We are planning to be open from Wednesday to Sunday, and hope that it will give a bit more life to the city.
"There are very few clubs open in the city during the week, so we think there is a need.
"We are planning on having international nights, with music from across Europe – along with dance and R & B music, we will also have guest DJs from Poland and Lithuania as well, to try and attract as many people as possible."
The club saw more than 200 people at the opening night last weekend, and Mr Balsevics said he was hoping it would continue to be a success.
He said: "It was important that we opened before the Christmas rush, and we are sure we will be busy.
"We may be in a recession, but it is time that someone had some success.
"We are trying to be a bit different from everyone else, and attract a real mix of people."
Today chairman of Peterborough Chamber of Commerce John Bridge said the club had the recipe for success, if it was managed well.
He said: "If there is demand for the club then people will go.
"We want a vibrant evening and night time economy, and we need people to invest in Peterborough, but we also want the right businesses to be in the city and attracting the right people.
"I am sure the research has been done to make sure the club attracts the right people."
Faith nightclub closed in April this year, and there had been plans by the owners to build flats on the site in the future.
However, the city council's planning department delayed the decision at a meeting last month because of the lack of detail in the application.
