Musical inspiration for pupils

JUST how do you help children decide if a musical instrument might be worth taking up?

JUST how do you help children decide if a musical instrument might be worth taking up?Music co-ordinator at Park Lane Primary School in Whittlesey Sue Bradshaw put on her thinking cap and decided a music showcase might be a good step.

So with her contacts at Ace Tones Music, which teaches schools and individuals throughout the region, she organised a morning at Park Lane school where more than 200 children got to hear musicians on the saxophone, flute, clarinet, guitar and keyboards playing a range of different styles of music.

Music teacher Lewis Slack started off with some fun tunes on the clarinet and flute.

Then one of his pupils, 11-year-old Crawford Johnston, who has reached a level of Grade 7 in just under two years, showed the Park Lane pupils just how cool saxophone music can be.

Ms Bradshaw said: “The children really enjoyed Crawford's performance. The music sounded great and I think it will really inspire the pupils to take up an instrument.”
