A CAMBRIDGESHIRE MP has hit out at a Government proposal to close more post offices in the region.
Conservative MP for North East Cambridgeshire Malcolm Moss, said the proposal to close 2,500 branches nationwide – after the 4,000 already closed – would mean a further five post offices in the region could shut.
The closures would be in addition to the 31 already shut or threatened with closure since 1999.
Mr Moss said: "I fear local communities across north east Cambridgeshire will lose their only shop, and vulnerable people will lose a service they depended upon.
"Labour Ministers have taken no account of the needs of the elderly, of disabled people or of the most disadvantaged – the very ones who will lose out most as this cuts programme rolls out."
There will be a public consultation on the closures in Cambridgeshire, starting Tuesday July 8 and finishing on Tuesday, August 26.
