Mosque is holding an open day

The Husaini Islamic Centre will open its doors to the public this weekend.

The Husaini Islamic Centre will open its doors to the public this weekend. From 2pm to 7pm on Sunday, members of the public are invited to visit the mosque, in Burton Street, Peterborough.

Husaini Islamic Centre is the first purpose-built mosque in Britain and hosts a long established Peterborough Muslim community. This will be a chance for people to see inside a mosque and learn more about the practices and beliefs of Muslims.

Visitors will be able to take a guided tour and view various exhibitions.

This year’s exhibitions include Celebrating the Muslim Community in Peterborough, the Rights of Passage in Islam, Islamic Art and Calligraphy, the Muslim Contribution to Science and Hijab – the Muslim Dress Code.

Imam of the mosque Mohammed Kassamali said: “Anyone who has ever been curious about Islam or Muslims should come along to the open day.

“It’s a good opportunity to find out more about a religion that has been in the headlines too often for the wrong reasons.

“We hope to dispel some of the negative myths and introduce people to some of the positive work our community does.”
