FIREFIGHTERS tackled a blaze at a chicken shed in March. Two crews from March, and one crew each from Chatteris, Manea, Wisbech, Whittlesey and Huntingdon were called to the fire at a poultry farm in Hook Drove in March on Tuesday at about 1.40am.
They found two large chicken sheds measuring about 80 metres by 20 metres, alight. They managed to stop the fire from spreading to surrounding buildings and returned to their base by 7.06am.
Incident commander Harry Edge said: "The two sheds involved in the fire, which were being used to store farm machinery, were totally destroyed by fire. Luckily there were no chickens inside the shed at the time. Firefighters worked hard to stop the fire from spreading to the surrounding buildings and also to limit the amount of smoke. No chickens were harmed during the fire."
A fire investigation officer and crime scenes investigators from Cambridgeshire Constabulary concluded the fire was started deliberately.
