A MAN accused of stabbing a city taxi driver five times has been cleared of the charge by a jury.Mickhall Holmes (34) was a passenger in A2B Eurocars when he was alleged to have carried out the brutal attack on cabbie Mohammed Javed on the afternoon of December 2, last year.

Mr Holmes, of Tyesdale, in Bretton, Peterborough denied the charge of wounding with intent during a three day trial at Peterborough Crown Court this week.

It was alleged that Mr Holmes told Mr Javed to drive from the Bretton Centre to nearby Risby before being ordered to pull over in an isolated spot in an isolated spot.

It was then that he was alleged to have demanded money before knifing the man five times in the back, chest and arms leaving wounds of 4cm deep and 2cm long.

However, Mr Holmes insisted that he had left his home at around 2.30pm and walked to an address in nearby Eyrescroft where he was going to buy some heroin.

He had told the court that other than a trip to Boots with a friend at about 6.30pm he had not left the property until returning back home at 12.05am.

Yesterday, after two and a half hours of deliberation, the jury returned a not guilty verdict, and Mr Holmes was released from the court.

Speaking after the verdict, he told The Evening Telegraph: “I am just glad it is all over. I know I never did it in the first place.”
