Make it a litter-free city

PEOPLE across the city are being encouraged to do their bit in a bid to make Peterborough one of the UK's most litter free places to live.

PEOPLE across the city are being encouraged to do their bit in a bid to make Peterborough one of the UK's most litter free places to live.A new anti-litter campaign is being launched on June 27, when volunteers can find out how they can become involved in keeping Peterborough litter free.

Carole Kariuki, a trustee of Environclean Community Group, which is organising the campaign, said: “We are all only too aware of the problems litter causes in terms of its visual impact on our environment, but it can also have a negative effect in terms of crime, public health, business, tourism and wildlife.

“The campaign is called It’s in your hands, and we want to achieve a litter-free Peterborough by influencing the behaviour of people who drop litter and educating them to stop.

“We hope by tackling the most problematic areas first, we would be able to make some headway with simple yet highly effective solutions. For example, working with immigrant community groups and encouraging them to educate others on issues of waste disposal and recycling.”

nCarole is now appealing to groups and residents who would like to take part, get in touch by calling her on 07872 665907.
