A JOINT statement has been issued by Councillor Marco Cereste, Cllr Brian Rush, Cllr Irene Walsh and Cllr Janet Wilkinson the Stanground Ward Councillors' outlining their position on the announcement of the plans, it said:"Stanground East and Stanground Central Ward Councillors were invited to a meeting with the developer on January 4, 2008.

We were told that this was a courtesy meeting to inform ward councillors of the developer's intentions in advance of the Magna Park project coming into the public domain.

In a subsequent private meeting we (ward councillors) decided to wait until the plan had matured before committing ourselves to any views.

On March 6, at an Environment & Community Safety Scrutiny Panel Meeting on which Cllr Rush is a member, and Cllr Walsh joined as a substitute member, the Magna Park project was presented as part of Peterborough City Council's Core Strategy.

Cllrs Rush and Walsh asked questions in connection with possible damage to the environment and requested that the project be removed from the Core Strategy and that their questions be addressed.

"The Member Code of Conduct requires that Councillors do not commit themselves to be in favour or against a planning application in advance of its being presented before the Planning Committee if they wish to express their views and vote if the matter comes to full Council for a decision.

As the Stanground Councillors wish to have their voice heard at every possible stage of the process, it was deemed wise not to make any public comment until the developer presented details of the project at the relevant Planning Committee.

We wish to emphasise however that, in the meantime, we intend to consult widely with residents in Stanground and will be respecting and supporting their views when this project comes before the Planning Committee for a decision."
