LOVE was in the air as city MP Helen Brinton tied the knot with fianc Alan Clark. The marriage took place at the Hambleton Room at the Great Northern Hotel, in Peterborough, in front of 120 guests, including Mrs Brinton s father, George Dyche (85), and her children from her first marriage, Gwendolen (19) and Hal (16).

In keeping with tradition, Mrs Brinton arrived just a few minutes late for the wedding, wearing an ivory silk bodice dress and bolero jacket, and carrying a bouquet of red roses.

Mr Clark, a political journalist with Meridian television, was accompanied by his former colleague and friend, Ray Rodgers, who was best man.

Guests at the service included the Mayor of Peterborough, Cllr Ray Pobgee, and his wife, Enid, a number of city councillors and six other Members of Parliament.

Mrs Brinton will now formally be known as Mrs Clark.

The couple will celebrate their marriage with a honeymoon in Europe next month.

The bride told The Evening Telegraph: It was a wonderful day. Alan and I were thrilled to have so many of our friends and family from all over the country here with us.

Mrs Brinton became the first Labour MP to hold the Peterborough constituency at the last General Election.
