Lights for Life: Readers make lightwork of fund-raising
THE light of kindness is filling Peterborough's streets, as many of you are decorating your houses to raise cash for the East Anglian Ambulance.
THE light of kindness is filling Peterborough's streets, as many of you are decorating your houses to raise cash for the East Anglian Ambulance. Our Lights for Life campaign asked readers to deck their house with outdoor Christmas lights and give any money passers-by handed them to the air ambulance.
And it has really caputured your imagination, as we are well on target for being able to raise hundreds of pounds for the charity.
Maurice Godfrey, of Hern Road, Ramsey St Mary, has decorated his house for the appeal for years, raising 800 last year alone.
He said: "It's a great cause, and one we're happy to support."
The air ambulance receives no Government or National Lottery funding and has to raise a minimum of 65,000 per month to keep its state-of-the-art helicopters flying and to provide the medical equipment they carry.
Last year, ET readers raised a whopping 6,000 with a similar appeal, which was enough to send the ambulance out on six life-saving missions.
Editor Mark Edwards said: "We'd like to thank everyone who has pledged to help the air ambulance, which needs to raise a staggering amount of money to be able to keep on offering the fantastic service it does, every day of the year. And it's not too late to join in – if you see a house covered in twirling Rudolph reindeers and flashing Christmas trees, give the owner a pound or two – it could help save someone's life."
