Peterborough United footballers joined Peterborough Environment City Trust’s National Tree Week celebrations by taking part in a tree planting day yesterday.

And just as the roots of a Posh revival under new manager Graham Westley have taken shape nicely with a surge up the third tier of English football, so Gabriel Zakuani, Tobi Adebayo-Rowling, Michael Smith and Andrew Fox showed their willingness to plant new beginnings for a woodland in the heart of Werrington.

The footballers visited a location behind Baron Court and Ambleside Gardens to join in with the second volunteer tree planting day run in the past week as part of the Forest for Peterborough project. And experts were on hand during the day to teach the players and visiting families everything that they needed to know about tree planting,
