THE bright lights and music of London's West End may seem a million miles away from Peterborough – but for one young actor the dream has become a reality.Griffin Stevens, of Eastfield, Peterborough, is currently playing to sell-out crowds six nights a week as he stars in the award-winning musical Jersey Boys.
The run started earlier this month at the Prince Edward Theatre, in Old Compton Street, London, and has already received rave reviews.
Mr Stevens (22), who started his acting performances at the Key Youth Theatre as a youngster, said the run was a dream come true.
He said: "It is fantastic to have this as my first big job. I am working really hard to make sure that the next step I take is a step forward."
Mr Stevens is playing Hank Majewski in the musical, which tells the story of '60s pop sensations Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons, and after its Broadway run in New York the production won several awards, including the Tony Award for best musical.
The former Deacons School pupil said he had not been phased by playing to the biggest audience of his career.
He said: "We do so much rehearsing that it doesn't really affect you when you get on stage.
"But occasionally you catch a glimpse of the audience, and you get a bit nervous.
"The play has such a wonderful cast though, and I am learning all the time from them.
"Everyone is so experienced, it has been fantastic so far."
After being so successful on Broadway, theatre critics were unsure of how British audiences would react to the musical.
But after receiving glowing reviews, audiences have been flocking to the theatre.
Mr Stevens said: "It is so typically American we were not sure how it would be taken.
"But the audiences really seem to listen and take in the story."
But despite the success he has now received, Mr Stevens said his success was down to his early years at the Key Theatre.
He said: "I really have to thank everyone there, as that is where I learnt my trade.
"Without all the help I received I would not be where I am now."
The Jersey Boys is scheduled to run at the Prince of Edward Theatre for another year, with performances every day except Sunday.
