A couple from Ramsey St Mary near Peterborough had a golden celebration on Saturday (13 June) as they marked 50 years of wedded bliss surrounded by their family.Marlene (71) and John (74) Hancock, from Ashbeach Drove, in Ramsey St Mary, have been together since Marlene was just 12-years-old, after meeting at the Ashbeach School.
The couple "just courted" from there, before getting engaged in 1957 and marrying just over two years later at Ramsey St Mary Parish Church on a sunny June 6, in 1959.
"We had the reception in the village hall, and it was the happiest day of my life. From then, we must have done something right otherwise we wouldn't be together still.
"Everyone has their ups and downs and struggles in life, but my husband is very laid back and easy going," said Marlene.
John added: "We've just kept together, I didn't want anyone else."
Happily married for five years, the couple had their only child when daughter Lynne was born, and it was at their daughter's home, in Ramsey St Mary, where they celebrated their milestone.
Marlene added: "We had some food and a few drinks and generallly everybody had a good time. There was about 35 of the family there and it was like going over old times.
"Some of the people we hadn't been together with for quite some time, so it was like a family event."
