Garden party raises cash for church

A CITY centre church has made a significant step towards replacing one of the most prominent features on the building.

A CITY centre church has made a significant step towards replacing one of the most prominent features on the building.St Paul’s Church, in Lincoln Road, New England, raised more than 600 at a D-Day Garden Party held on Saturday, June 6.

The money is being put towards the cost of replacing the cross on the top of the church tower. Work began on June 1 to put up the scaffolding around the tower in readiness to put up the new cross.

A spokesman for the church thanked everyone who helped support the garden party.

To raise more funds for repairs, another fund raising event will be held in St Paul’s Church on Saturday, July 18, at 7pm.

The event will be a summer concert performed by String of Pearls, who are members of the Weldon Women’s Institute.

Tickets cost 5, including an interval drink.
