THE tale of Benson - Peterborough's famous carp who was found dead last week - has made a splash in national news across the country even making the front page of yesterday's Times. On Saturday, The Evening Telegraph exclusively revealed Benson, who, tipping the scales at 64lb as Britain's biggest common carp, had been found dead the previous Wednesday by anglers at Bluebell Lakes near Oundle.

The story sparked many comments on our website with some people carping about our news sense.

But since then newspapers and radio stations across the country have taken up the story of Benson, who is being mourned by hundreds of anglers from across the country.

It is believed the 25-year-old monster fish – who has been nicknamed Lord of the Lakes – was poisoned with tiger nuts, which when uncooked are toxic to fish.
