WITH smiling faces and delighted laughter, the children in Peterborough District Hospital's Amazon Ward couldn't believe their eyes when the entire Posh squad paid a festive visit.

WITH smiling faces and delighted laughter, the children in Peterborough District Hospital's Amazon Ward couldn't believe their eyes when the entire Posh squad paid a festive visit.Barry Fry's kind-hearted boys arrived carrying dozens of gifts and goodie bags for the youngsters, to bring a little Christmas cheer to the ward.

Peterborough United's furry mascot, Peter Burrow also added to the surprise and kept the youngsters entertained with his antics – off the pitch for a change.

Posh goalkeeper Mark Tyler said: "We visit the children's ward each year and the lads are only too happy to come down and hand out presents.

"It is a difficult time of the year for the children, but they had smiles on their faces and it is great to do something for them."

Team-mate Simon Rea, who plays

centre-half, added: "It's great to be able to do something to bring a smile to their faces, and we're delighted to come down and do that."

Twelve-year-old Yasmin Newman was very pleased with the visit by Posh. Despite being a Portsmouth Football Club supporter, she said: "It's really nice that they've come down to see us."

Fellow patient, 10-year-old Humaira Bhabha added: "It's a great surprise to see the team visit."

Helen Warren, the ward's play team co-ordinator, said the annual visit by the players made a big difference to the young patients.

"You can see the delight on the children's faces, their eyes just light up.

"We really appreciate the players coming down – it's great for the children, their families and their siblings to take part in it all.

"We try to make Christmas as nice a time as possible for the children on the ward."

Club supporters donated the gifts

THE Posh Official Supporters Club proved to be loyal in their support, not just to the team, but to the city's children as well.

The club donated and wrapped the dozens of presents – for children of all ages – which were presented during the players' visit.

A goodie bag of official Peterborough United merchandise was put together by the football club for each child.
