CROWDS flocked to Central Park in Peterborough for two days of festivities.
CROWDS flocked to Central Park in Peterborough for two days of festivities.The sun beamed down on the 1,000-strong crowd who gathered for Fun in the Park – part of Peterborough Festival.
There were performances from Deacon's School Band, Vocal Academy and Peterborough Youth Jazz Band, as well as a live owl display and performances from the Revellers Open Air Theatre, on Saturday.
About 300 motors were paraded in park for Peterborough Classic Car Club's rally, featuring a 1973 Mustang and James Bond's preferred mode of transport, an Austin Martin, on Sunday.
Club chairman John Stephenson said: "It's been a really great turn-out. The rally is our biggest show of the year.
"This is our third year to hold the rally in Central Park.
Peterborough Morris and Pig Dyke Molly dance troupes, the Salvation Army Band, Peterborough Operatic and Dramatic Society, and the Classic Harmony group, also entertained the crowds, on Sunday.
The highlight of the event was Chandana Wickramasinghe and the Dancers Guild, who came all the way from Sri Lanka.
Festival organiser Colin Wise is delighted with the increasing popularity of the event, which is now in its sixth year.
He said: "This is my last time organising the festival, as I retire next year, and it has been a real joy to work on.
"We've been getting great feedback. It's been a fantastic opportunity to celebrate the diversity of art, music and culture in the city."
Visitors to the park said they were impressed by the events.
Jayne Booth (32), from Bretton, Peterborough, said: "I've been impressed by the mix of different acts."
David Benton (25), from Woodston, Peterborough, who was there with his fiance, Emma Henderson (26), said: "There's a great atmosphere in the park. It's great to see."
Festival events also spread to The Embankment, where Tacklefest 2005 took place.
The family fishing fun featured television celebrity Matt Hayes, while Britain's top anglers competed in the final of the UK's oldest angling competition.
And there was an international It's A Knockout held by Peterborough NSPCC Business Support Group.
The madcap event featured teams of up to 10 people from companies and organisations in the area to raise funds for the children's charity.
