A REDUNDANT Peterborough City Council training centre is set to be sold to help bolster town hall budget plans.Peterborough Professional Development Centre, based at the former RAF Westwood officers' mess, on a two-acre site off Cottesmore Close, Netherton, Peterborough, was inherited by the city council when it became a unitary authority in 1998.

However, it was deemed surplus to requirements in 2005 and closed at the end of 2008.

Cabinet approval is now being sought as the proceeds of the sale of the site, which contains a number of temporary buildings, have already been built into the council's budget for 2009/10.

In his report recommending approval for the disposal of the site, head of strategic projects Richard Hodgson said the council had no further use for the building.

He said: "The council is seeking to deliver capital receipts from the sale of assets which are surplus to requirements, in order to support the council's medium term financial plan. A capital receipt was assumed for 2008/09, but this has been rolled over to 2009/10."

He added that the site was considered to have a number of possible uses, including conversion of the main building.
