PETERBOROUGH'S growing reputation as a hive of environment activity has attracted a prestigious visit from the president of the Institution of Civil Engineers.Jean Venables will visit Peterborough Environment City Trust (PECT) on Friday (26 June) to hear about the lessons learned from the city's Zero Waste Places project.
During her visit, Jean will hear from staff at PECT and the city's urban regeneration company Opportunity Peterborough about how the project has saved more than 3,000 tonnes of material being sent to landfill.
The initiative has seen a host of community groups benefit from the donation of materials from the Cathedral Square redevelopment and the city's "Corn Exchange" building.
The premises, which are earmarked for demolition as part of the works, has seen materials, including paving slabs, toilets, benches, and even flights of stairs, re-homed.
Peterborough was one of the six UK cities that have been designated a Zero Waste Place by the Government.
