IN true Derren Brown style, a devoted mother-of-four used her eggs-pert skills to be crowned the winner of a friendly game of chance – Russian roulette with eggs.Terri De-Ath swapped a loaded gun for half a dozen eggs, one of which was raw, as she took part in the Russian Egg Roulette event at the Rowntree’s Randoms World Egg Throwing Championships.

With a handkerchief tied around her forehead and the power of her mind at the ready, Terri beat off competition from seven other contestants, as they took it in turns to smash eggs on their heads at the contest, in Swaton, Lincolnshire.

The annual event, sponsored by new confectionery Rowntree’s Randoms, saw the woman from Little Close, in Eye, near Peterborough, come out of her shell in style as she managed to smash more than 30 eggs on her forehead, avoiding the raw one each time.

The 30-year-old was supported on the day by her four children Daniel (10), Luke (7), James (5) and Olivia (3), but it was her mother Margaret (55) who is responsible for Terri’s success.

Terri said: “I wasn’t supposed to be taking part, I was just going along to cheer my mum on. But as I parked up, mum started shouting “we’re on”.

“I didn’t really have any other option but to do as she said and before I knew it, I was sitting opposite my mum with half a dozen eggs in front of me.

“There were five hard boiled and one raw egg among the six, and the idea was to chose the hard boiled ones. So I began smashing them against my head.

“After the first round, I just thought I was lucky but then I won further rounds, the semi-final and, eventually, the final.

“The funny thing was, I don’t even like eggs and the thought of having to smash them against my head was making me feel ill.

“I just tried to get it over and done with, whereas my mum was trying all different types of tactics, looking at the eggs and their colour and trying to work out which of the eggs was raw.

“But all jokes aside, it really was a fun day.”
